Most of us love the thought of free trips and would miss no opportunity to experience these. However, possibly the only people who never look forward to these paid trips are the businessmen. This is because business travel is way more than just that. The tight schedules of business trips are surely going to test your nerves. Most of the times, this means a plenty of insomniac days and nights, no proper meals and plenty of uncomfortable situations. Although it doesn’t really take that long, all business travelers know the cloud of stress hovering over their heads.

Most of the times, business trips that are prescheduled can’t be changed. This is another misery faced by business travelers. While their mind is supposed to focus on being productive and preparing for the important meetings that are planned ahead, the heart refuses to do so. This is because many of the business trips mean you would have to miss out on important events back home. All businessmen have fallen a victim to this; whether they missed their parent’s silver jubilee celebration or their daughter’s graduation party. Go on the Rock ’n’ Roll walking tour for a peek of London

Rock ’n’ roll can be regarded London assets, but it’s difficult to deny that a whole lot of the style’s historical past Rock, and a number of its largest names, too, come from the alternative side of the pond walking.

London was swinging in the mid-Sixties, and from arts, fashion to track, it was the epicenter of a cultural revolution that changed the world for all time.

Little might also have transpired within the name of improvement and song from the time of the London Blitz, however, within the 1960s, The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, Eric Clapton, Jimi Hendrix et al, were cruising along Soho’s sidewalk and cavorting on King’s Road.

London’s properly curated and guided excursion of its rock ’n’ roll hotspots, Rock ’n’ Roll Walking tour, gives a peek behind the curtains and closed doors of legendary stay venues, recording studios, espresso homes, and liquor shops. While I largely best got to see the façade of most of these traveler pitstops (a lot of them were re-purposed for different trades), understanding that legendary musicians combined and mingled on these hallowed grounds become enough to immerse me in the myths and legends of British rock ’n’ roll.

Scotch Of St James, a secluded returned alley participants-most effective club, changed into where Jimi Hendrix first performed in London after returning from the United States.

1. Scotch of St James – It’s implausible the range of musicians who stepped onto the level of this participants-only membership. Eric Clapton, Jimmy Page, Rod Stewart, Chuck Berry and, more these days, Jack White (not Jack Black!), have all strutted their stuff there. But the event that’s nearest and dearest to Londoners is, this became the first venue Jimi Hendrix performed at while he became whisked from New York to London by The Animals’ bass player Chas Chandler. What rock track lovers could supply to have been a fly on the wall forty to 50 years in the past!

2. Bag o’ Nails – Like Scotch of St James, Bag o’ Nails was additionally (and like Scotch, nevertheless is) an individuals-only club. Once Chandler had assembled the best musicians to lower back Hendrix, he unveiled the band, The Experience, here. And that is additionally in which Sir Paul McCartney first set eyes on his (overdue) wife, Linda Eastman.

3. Paris Theatre – This former theater become farmed out for BBC Radios 2 and 4’s rock content material, especially mini concert events which required the attendance of an audience, specifically, the In Concert and Sounds Of The Nineteen Seventies series. The Beatles’ BBC classes famously depict the band simply outdoor the building. Rock’s greatest luminaries have graced its level, which includes the likes of Led Zeppelin, Deep Purple, Queen and Pink Floyd Queen’s Bohemian Rhapsody, The Beatles’ Hey Jude and David Bowie’s Life On Mars? Had been recorded at Trident Studios. ‘Nuff stated.

4. Trident Studios – For me, the jewel in the walk’s crown. This became the studio wherein Queen’s iconic Bohemian Rhapsody turned into a record. It also hosted the recordings of a number of David Bowie’s conventional albums and tunes. We have been unlucky that the owner changed into away on the time of our visit, so we didn’t get to go in, but understanding that I changed into at the entrance of where a number of rock’s greatest musicians went via to put down a number of the maximum revered songs in rock records became desirable enough. And to vaunt its legend, the glass window at the side of the nook shop lot lists the conventional recordings of yore. The studio is no longer a track recording studio, but one for jingles.

De Lane Lea studios, now owned by way of Warner Brothers, become where Jimi Hendrix recorded his first traditional single Hey Joe.

5. De Lane Lea Studios – Now owned by Warner Brothers, this become, again in rock ’n’ roll’s glory days, a thriving recording studio inside the Nineteen Sixties and 70s. Hendrix’s advent to the world, Hey Joe, became recorded here. ’Nuff stated? Almost. The Who’s Who have all recorded right here, consisting of The Who, The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, Pink Floyd, Deep Purple and Wishbone Ash, among others.

6. Gerry’s Wines and Spirits – As the call indicates, this shop is the basis of rock ’n’ roll merry-making. Old Compton Street has seen many a boozed up musician traversing its pavement, and all typically headed in the path of Gerry’s. According to our tour manual, every form of liquor can be bought there. If they don’t have it in inventory, they
three Savile Row, now belonging to fashion chain Abercrombie, turned into once the headquarters for The Beatles’ quick-lived report label Apple Corp, on the roof of which the well-known roof-top concert changed into recorded in 1969.

7. Three Savile Row – Apple Corp become The Beatles’ bold but failed label, a try to branch out on its personal, but terrible enterprise control ended hopes for any form of destiny the label can also have had. The lot in which the Fab Four’s office turned into as soon as placed, now belongs to Abercrombie & Fitch, however, the clothing agency has retained the internal shape much within the way Apple once operated. The lot’s rooftop has been immortalized in The Beatles rooftop live performance in 1969, which in the end had the police from the station down the road preventing the display.

What limits us then; where are the boundaries and who placed them in our path? We did. Boundaries are established by an old enemy… fear. It’s those things we love and the fear of losing them that is the barrier preventing us from reaching our highest potential or discovering all the great unknowns. Power, prestige, money, the loss of affection or respect from someone we care about and applause; the resounding applause of those who approve of us all have their name stamped on that which stops us in our tracks.

Mr. Tallent and his band will take the stage at AMP by using Strathmore in North Bethesda, Maryland, Sunday evening, where they intend to recreate the sounds of the era of poodle skirts and leather jackets, but in a modern atmosphere.

“No rely upon how tough I attempt to reproduction a person’s work, it continually comes out filtered through me,” Mr. Tallent said of his unique compositions. “So you simply [take] what you sound [like] and go with that.”
Unlike the theatrics and nice motels that accompany Mr. Tallent’s globetrotting with Mr. Springsteen, his solo tour is a considerably humbler affair, seeing him playing to hundreds or even dozens versus the rabid

The Best Fifteen Of All ’16 Albums

In the world of music, the year 2016 started with sadness. At the start of the second week in January, David Bowie passed away just a few days after his 69th birthday.

The demise of other rock icons soon followed as we lost Glenn Frey of the Eagles and Dale “Buffin” Griffin that very same month. Before the year had ended, fans had to say final goodbyes to Prince, Leon Russell, and Paul Kantner, among others.

Fortunately, Bowie left us with a new studio album that was released just before his death. Titled Black Star, the album certainly provided a shining light for the rest of 2016 for music fans.

Here are the best fifteen albums that were released in 2016.

The power pop band returned to its nineties heyday with this delicious Grammy-nominated album, highlighted by the Beach Boys inspired Endless Bummer.

Electronic beats have been added to the indie band’s electric rock, creating an impressive array of songs about every stage of a relationship.

Paging Mr. Proust by the Jayhawks

The literary reference is appropriate when you examine the poetic lyrics of the songs from this ten-song treasure, most notably Ghosts of Old Dead Stars.

Self-Titled by Look Park

Chris Collingwood announced the demise of Fountains of Wayne shortly after releasing this acoustic but clever collection from his new band.

Good Times by the Monkees

Mickey, Mike, and Peter are in great form on this album of all new material produced by Fountains of Wayne’s Adam Schlessinger, and it even includes a never-released song with lead vocal by the late Davy Jones.

Self-Titled by Fitz and the Tantrums

Handclap was one the biggest hit singles of the summer, and there are plenty more tunes that lead you to stomp your feet as well.

Schmick by Wilco

Jeff Tweedy, who released Star Wars just a year ago, created another collection of folk-rock songs that includes If I Ever Was a Child and Normal American Kids.

Give a Glimpse Of What Yer Not by Dinosaur, Jr.

The band’s first album in four years proved certainly worth the wait, spawning instant classic singles like Tiny and Goin’ Down.

Painkillers by Brian Fallon

Venturing away from his role as frontman of The Gaslight Anthem, Fallon made this solo album that shines because of fantastic tracks like Mojo Hand.

Full Circle by Loretta Lynn

Twelve years after Jack White-produced Van Lear Rose, the country music Hall of Famer got John Carter Cash to help her with this Bach of new songs like Who’s Gonna Miss Me? and the Everything It Takes duet with Elvis Costello.

Hope by the Strumbellas

Spirits was the hottest single of the spring, and it catapulted this Canadian folk-rock band onto the U.S. charts.

Bitter Suites by Travis Bretzer

Anyone desiring a hard copy of these sweet new eleven songs needs a cassette player since the tape is the only format available besides a digital download.

Team Member Feedback: A Priceless Communication Tool

Image result for album

Feedback is such an important communication tool. Openness, honesty, candor, trust — all of these are hallmarks of high-performance teams and organizations. Good feedback skills are essential to any relationship.

Feedback is important because:

– It prevents small issues from festering into unmanageable problems.

– It builds trust in relationships.

– It promotes personal and professional growth.

– It acknowledges individual and team accomplishments.

– It clears up misunderstandings.

– It is a way to acknowledge and recognize team members’ skills and contributions.

As a result, effective feedback makes life at work a great deal easier and more rewarding.

So how do you give someone effective feedback? First, ensure your intention is to be helpful and supportive, rather than to “slam.” Check to make sure the person wants and is ready to accept feedback if you haven’t been asked to provide it. Before providing your feedback, ask the person for their assessment of the situation.

But, how do you say it? What words do you use that will ensure the message is delivered properly? Be specific. Describe the actual behavior you observed, not personality traits. Avoid generalities, vague statements, and inferences. Use “I” statements: I saw…, I heard…, I felt… Describe the impact of the behavior on you: “I felt…when you…” Be sincere with your comments. Don’t say that something was good when you don’t really believe it.

It’s important to give a balanced mix of both positive feedback and feedback for improvement. Try to end with a positive comment. Be sure that the feedback received has understood your comments. Encourage a response.

Another important point. Consider timeliness. Don’t “store up” feedback of either kind and dump it on a person. Feedback is much more effective if provided close to the time the behavior actually occurred.

There are two types of feedback — Positive feedback and feedback for improvement.

Positive Feedback – Positive feedback is information about what someone did well. There’s a very simple approach you can use when giving positive feedback.

– Describe what the person actually did or said, and

– Why this statement or action was effective.

Make sure your “What and Why” approach is based on specific, sincere information. For example: “Mary, when you presented the results of the team’s customer satisfaction survey, your charts were very clear and easy to understand (what). They made it easy to identify which areas we need to work on to make our customers happier (why)..”

Feedback for Improvement – Feedback for improvement is given about situations which did not go well, or which could have been better. In this case, it’s important to tell the person specifically what could have been said or done differently, and why that would have been more effective.

The approach to giving feedback for improvement is:

– Describe what was said or done,

– Tell what would have been a better approach, and

– Why that would have been better

Make sure your “What, What and Why” approach is based on specific, sincere information. For example: “George, when you commented on Ted’s report, I felt your remarks sounded sarcastic and not specific enough to be helpful (what). If you tell Ted exactly what additional information is necessary (what), he’ll be able to incorporate the information you feel is needed when he revises the report (why)..”

Receiving Feedback

There’s also the special skill required when receiving feedback. If you ask for feedback, be sure you are ready to receive it. Actively listen with your full attention. Ask for specific examples of what you did well and what could have been better. Ask questions to clarify, and paraphrase to check your understanding. Don’t resist the feedback and avoid being defensive — don’t explain, rationalize or justify. Listen for the impact your behavior is having on the other person. Consider carefully whether, and how you want to change your behavior. Let others know immediately so they can support you. Ask for help and assistance, if appropriate. Most importantly, thank others when they provide you feedback. They have taken a risk to help you grow.

Remember: Feedback is a gift, a unique learning opportunity. Whether you agree or not, it has value because it represents a set of perceptions about you and your behavior.

The Day a “Tidal Wave” Hit Chicago

“Giant tidal wave hits local town lake.” April Fool’s joke? Probably. “Giant Tidal Wave Hits Chicago.” Joke, right? No. This was the headline of the afternoon edition of the Chicago Daily News on June 26, 1954.

I left the house in my beat-up Chevy at around 9:00 a.m. on a warm Saturday morning in June 1954 and drove uptown to Lake Michigan’s Montrose Beach and harbor to meet my father and some friends at the Wilson Rocks Bait Shop where he hung out with his fellow fishermen. We were going to do some Perch fishing……which is a chewy white meat fish that is a taste of Heaven when deep fried and served with, lemon, tartar sauce, and accordion fries. Getting ready for my final year in high school, I had been working a hard construction job and was in need of some sun and relaxation. Perch was the answer this Saturday morning, but I would soon find something quite different……something that I would never forget.

As I pulled into the parking area, I noticed it was full of water despite it being a bright sunny day. The Lake was unusually choppy. I also noticed people running toward the pier. There was a sense of something very serious and very bad going on and immediately and instinctively I headed for the bait shop to connect with my father. He saw me coming and said “let’s go to the pier, they need help down there,” and we took off at full speed along with many others. A Seiche (pronounced says) had struck Montrose Harbor without warning on this June morning. It was 8 feet high and 25 miles wide and hit Chicago’s entire lakefront……from Michigan City, Indiana to the North Shore. Eight people were killed, most of whom were fishing right there in Montrose Harbor where about 15 or 20 fishermen were swept off the narrow, 175-foot concrete pier. And we knew many of them.

When we arrived, bathers and fishermen were running for cover. Men, women, and children scurried and fell. Yachts bobbed widely in the water. The wave at some points had rushed 150 feet inshore before subsiding in a few minutes which explained why I saw so much water as I pulled into the parking lot. There were rescues, panic, despair, and narrow escapes. Unfortunately, we were too late to be of any real help and then stood by helplessly as the rescue teams began the grim job of pulling each body from the lake. Apparently, fishermen who had been lying on their stomachs, idly guiding lines in the water, were simply swept off the pier as the water swelled up and washed over them. Fishermen on the North Avenue pier, several miles to the South, were also swept into the lake, and the same grim work was being done there. Among those hurled into the water was Ted Stempinski, who had been fishing with his son Ralph, 16. Ralph left the scene for a moment shortly before the wave struck. When he returned his father was gone. The same thing happened with John Jaworski who also was fishing with his son. Those tragic facts hardly went unnoticed and stayed with me for a long time after.

News of the oncoming wave was spread quickly by park police who cleared fishermen from a pier at 61th St. In Jackson Park minutes before the water submerged that area. At Loyola Beach just North the waves broke over a 9-foot seawall. All the docks at the Belmont Harbor yacht basin were flooded when the wave raised the water level there about 6 feet.

Prior to June 26, nobody had ever heard of the word “Seiche.” After June 26, most of us were experts on the phenomena. Specifically, “A Seiche has to occur in an enclosed body of water such as a lake, bay or gulf. A Seiche, a French word meaning “to sway back and forth”, is a standing wave that oscillates in a lake as a result of seismic or atmospheric disturbances creating huge fluctuations of water levels in just moments. The standing waves slosh back and forth between shores of the lake basin, often referred to as tide-like changes of the Great Lakes, by many. Most seiches on the Great Lakes are results of atmospheric disturbances and a cease in wind, not the seismic activity or huge tidal forces” ( Heidorn 2004; Wittman 2005).

This particular Seiche, which was the most dangerous of the three kinds, was fueled by a severe squall line with high winds and rapid changes in atmospheric pressure that pushed down on the lake’s surface and crossed southern Lake Michigan a few hours earlier, passing from northwest to southeast. It’s as if you dropped a stone in the middle of a bucket of water and watched the ripples move from the center. The atmospheric pressure caused by the squall was the stone and the ripples were the Seiche. Like water sloshing back and forth in a bathtub, fast-moving squall lines with intense atmospheric pressure caused the lake to slosh back and forth and water levels to rise on the shoreline and harbors by up to 10 feet in a matter of minutes and with no warning.

Unlike a tsunami, which can travel across the open ocean at extremely high speeds, a Seiche moves much more slowly. It took 80 minutes for the Seiche to travel 40 miles from Michigan City to the Chicago lakeshore at North Avenue. That’s about 30 mph. The Seiche Struck the entire Illinois coast with a wave about 2 to 4 feet high, but it reached a maximum height of 10 feet as it approached the North Avenue pier.

But Hagar has grown used to multitasking, as he is also promoting his new album, “This Is Sammy Hagar Vol. 1 — When the Party Started,” appearing on the second season of his “Rock ’n’ Roll Road Trip” tour collection on AXS TV and planning an excursion along with his band the Circle. There’s usually that Van Halen reunion to consider too. Hagar, sixty-nine, spoke to us from an excursion stop in Florida.

Q: So James can’t make it this year?

A: No, James is on tour with Metallica. It’s kind of a bummer. We pointed out it, and at first, I thought perhaps we pass one. But then we each agreed that’s now not cool. I’m looking for a lifestyles-size cutout of him that I can put onstage with me. I’ll position the microphone in his face and he’ll move, “Yeaaah!”

Q: He’s had a number of the fine moments of these live shows, like singing Adele along with his daughter or singing the Beatles music.

A: Having an accomplice like James is so unusual and special. He’s so uncomfortable with it. There’s no question about it. James might be uncomfortable in Metallica. He’s simply uncomfortable. He’s the sort of good-hearted man. I’m sitting there behind the scenes with him, and I pass, “James, it’s all cool, guy. I’m no longer exact at this both.” He creates a tension while he performs acoustically that’s without a doubt powerful.

Q: Have you taken into consideration taking Acoustic-4-A-Cure out on the road, like a slightly more youthful version of Ringo Starr’s All-Starr Band?

A: I would love to do it. Between everything else I’ve got taking place in my life, I don’t even have time to tour with my personal band. To attempt to take another band on, don’t even get me started.

Q: You’re doing a right excursion q4. Did you pass over appearing often?

A: I constantly pass over being onstage. But I don’t omit to be on tour. The way I’ve been doing it for approximately the remaining seven or 8 years, I’ll simply take shows — you recognize, Dallas and perhaps Houston. But I got so antique remaining yr, I discovered myself having to head over to my studio five days per week and rehearse to get my voice into form. Next factor I realize, all I’m doing is getting equipped for two shows. I wouldn’t do greater than 40 or 50 suggests a yr. I just can’t. It’s my body and my time. And in my coronary heart, I get accessible onstage and I cross, “You realize, I don’t sense like doing it this night.”

XBOX 720 Rumors: Facts and Fiction

Unlike most electronic devices, Sony’s PlayStation 3 and Microsoft’s XBOX 360 have been able to hold their own by lasting as long as they have at the top of a very competitive market; their run has been absolutely impressive.

That being said, rumors are rife in the gaming industry that Microsoft have been laboring on a new gaming console, XBOX 720, that is set to give Sony’s PlayStation 4, Project Shield and Nintendo Wii U a run for their money in what has been dubbed as the ‘next generation’ of video game technology. Little is, however, known regarding the XBOX 720 but there is always some bit of truth behind every rumor and some of that can be back in this report.

Thankful to the leaks that we have been able to get, we can say with some degree of certainty that Microsoft has had XBOX 720 as a work in progress for a number of years now. This already shows the amount of deliberation and patience that Microsoft is willing to put into this project, a commendable feat to say the least. Also, we can deduce that it is not going to be long now, maybe months before Microsoft announces its release into the market. That alone is enough to stir some excitement in gaming enthusiasts.

However, it is prudent to acknowledge that much of this still remains to be but mere speculations. In fact, the purported name of this ‘next generation’ video gaming console may or may not be XBOX 720. Some are of the impression that Microsoft will name it ‘XBOX Infinity’ while others will argue that it will indeed be XBOX 720. The name is, however, trivial at this stage.

Worth noting is that rumors already gave the processing power of the XBOX 720 a supreme status in comparison with what we already know to expect of Nintendo Wii U. It is reported that it will have an outstanding 1.2 teraflops of power; more comprehensively, the gaming console is expected to have an 8-core 1.6GHz chip with a 768-thread-packing GPU. That is quite some power.

Kinect 2.0 is one of the most interesting features that is rumored to be incorporated into the XBOX 720 and sources have been quoted saying that Microsoft are keen on investing in the project as they see a bright future in motion-controlled video games.

On the other entertainment aspect of the gaming console, XBOX 720 will have a Blu-Ray player to enhance the movie experience and as you expect the gaming console will be left behind in the cloud-connection craze and will be able to support certain cloud-storage games. Exclusive shows and other TV programs will also feature in the gaming console, this is in line with the rumor that Microsoft is working to put up its own TV content.

In a bid to stop second-hand games from being passed on to other gamers by means of sale or gift, it is rumored that Microsoft will install a code activation that will render this impossible. What would also be potentially unwelcomed by gamers is the internet dependency for gaming that is rumored to come with the XBOX 720. These concerns would go a long way I hampering the warm reception that the console would prefer.

Release date

Along with the cheerful carols and the merry making, the Christmas of 2013 could see the release of the ‘next generation’ gaming console; that’s one more reason to look forward to Christmas games. Unfortunately, though this is mere speculation and the due date of release still remains at Microsoft’s discretion.

New Orleans Jazz – News and Views – Sammy Penn

SAMMY PENN: Born Morgan City Louisiana September 15, 1902. Died Florida September 18, 1969.

Let’s start off a little differently this time: to me, the greatest New Orleans drummers for my pleasure were Baby Dodds, Sammy Penn, and Cie Frazier. But Sammy had a wonderful second string to his bow. He sang with the same phrasing as the legendary Fats Domino, and with his big cigar and a huge smile was a master entertainer.

Sammy’s first job was in 1921 with Jake Johnson’s band, then with Chris Kelly’s Brass Band, Kid Rena’s Brass Band and the legendary Eureka Brass Band. He was the mainstay of the Kid Thomas band for a quarter of a century.

You must understand that entertainment was the name of the game. With Sammy Penn and Joe “Twat” Butler, Kid Thomas Valentine had a showband. Singers, personalities, and Thomas with his famous “bag of tricks” No wonder this band survived in New Orleans and then toured the world to represent the birthplace of jazz.

In a long interview with my friend Tom Stagg in his wonderful record shop “Good Rockin’,on to” he describes Sammy Penn’s drum kit as “ultra basic” A bass drum, a snare drum, a tom-tom and a cymbal attached to the bass drum. As Tom remembers, he drove the band relentlessly and with an amazing complexity of rhythmic sounds. This kit was simple but the rhythm was anything but! This is Tom’s recollection of the last weeks of his life. “Sammy returned from a doctor’s appointment with the news that he had very high blood pressure and heart murmurs. Sammy played at Preservation Hall that night and after another session with the Kid Thomas Band loaded their ontoa bus outside the Hall on St. Peters Street and set off with Sammy for a tour through Georgia to Florida. After only one concert, the bus returned to the Hall with only the driver, the road manager and the body of Sammy Penn.

Talking to Barry Martyn, he rates Sammy Penn highly in great drummers from New Orleans. Sammy played 4/4 on the bass drum and not the more familiar cut time of New Orleans drummers. George Lewis preferred that 4/4 sound and Joe Watkins played that way, but without the explosive accents and complex rhythms of Sammy Penn. Barry had the good fortune to sit in with the Kid Thomas Band and found that he could not hear himself and had to adjust his volume and style to suit the band.

So Sammy Penn was the drummer for Kid Thomas and his Algiers Stompers and spent the major part of his playing life with that band. As Barry Martyn said “When Joe James and Sammy died the band would never be quite the same again”

To hear him at his best, you should listen to “Kid Thomas Valentine Creole Jazz Band on American Music AMCD 49 and “Kid Thomas and his Algiers Stompers” on Riverside OJCCD 1833-2. My great joy is actually seeing the man in action on a DVD of the December Band produced by Big Bill Bissonnette (possibly still available by contacting him on his Jazz Crusade website –

What a Tour Broker Is and How to Become One

A person who operates a tour company is a broker. A broker is a middleman. Brokers buy or arrange items or services and sell these items or services to the end buyer. Some examples of brokers are:

Independent insurance agents. These agents do not provide insurance; they arrange insurance for you from an insurance company. Insurance agents usually get a commission from an insurance company.

Stockbrokers. As insurance agents, stock brokers help you buy and sell stock. They don’t own the stock. These brokers also receive a commission based on the amount sold.

Real estate broker. Again, these brokers do not own the properties they sell and they get a commission based on the value of what they sell.

There are also tour brokers. Tour brokers serve a variety of customers. This article is about what a tour brokerage is and the basics of this business.

Here is a good description of what a tour is: A trip with visits to various places of interest for business, pleasure, or instruction.

Here travel is defined: To go from one place to another, as on a trip; journey.

A tour, then, is not only travel but it is travel with the purpose being pleasure or interest. You may think of a tour as extended travel with the object being to see and experience an area. Travel, on the other hand, is usually only about moving from one place to another.

A tour broker works with people on a continuous basis. If you are going to get involved in this type of business you should like working with people – you have to be a people person.

Tour brokers are not traveled agents. Travel agents arrange for the travel needs of their customers. Usually, a travel agent will only work with individuals or small groups (families, for example). Travel agents also always buy something that is already in place (air travel, car rentals, hotels, etc.), they do not originate anything.

Tour brokers originate – they arrange tours, they arrange the transportation, they arrange the lodging, they arrange the meals, and they arrange other services for their clients. A tour broker plans on what kind of tour he/she wants to operate.

Next, the tour broker makes arrangements for the various components of the tour – transportation, food, lodging, attractions, etc.

There are many types of tour companies. Some offer guided tours of a local area – tours of a city or an attraction, for example. Some offer tours in a natural setting – guided tours through the Grand Canyon fall into this category. Some offer tours to various national and state parks. Some offer tours through a large area, a multi-state tour is a good example.

You may have to do inspections of the hotels and attractions that you will be making a part of your tour. If you have been taught correctly you will know how to get “comp” (short for complimentary or Free) rooms and meals. If you will go along with the tour, you should expect to get comps again. How to set it up so that you get comps is something your mentor should teach.

As I mentioned before, this is a people business. Liking to work with people and liking to solve problems is a prime requirement.

Like a church is a church because someone calls it a church, a tour broker is a tour broker because someone says that they are a tour broker. There is no requirement for a license. If you do operate a business there may be a need for you to get a federal tax number and your county or city may require you to get a business license. As far as needing a license to become a tour broker – there is no license required. From the mid-1930’s until the 1980s transportation was strictly controlled by the Interstate Commerce Commission (ICC). Under the Deregulation Act of 1982, the competition was allowed and the need for federal authority became a thing of the past.

Depending on where you are you may need some sort of business license. Call your local county office and ask for the office in charge of business licenses. This should be easy as all they really want is for you to file some paperwork and pay them a small fee.

If you are going to be making money (and why else get in the business?) you are going to have to get a federal tax number. This number is called a Tax Identification Number (TIN) and is used in business much as your Social Security number is used for benefits.

I have looked at various sites on the Internet purporting to be concerned with how to become a tour operator. Most do not seem to understand what a tour operator is or does. Those which got close to the concept either offers to teach or provided links to sites which may prepare someone how to be a tour guide. A tour guide is not a tour operator – at best, a tour guide works for a tour operator.

A tour operator runs his/her own business

It’s as simple as that – you own and run the business. If you plan to make a profit you follow this rule – buy low, sell high. People tend to make things too difficult. You buy at one price and sell at another price, easy, huh?

The real “trick” to making money in the tour business is to understand that concept of breaking even (BE). The break-even point is where you don’t lose money and where you don’t make money. To help you understand this idea you have to understand that there are two types of costs in most businesses – fixed and variable. A fixed cost is one that will occur whether you have 10 clients or 46. Office rent is a fixed cost. You have to pay the rent whether or not you operate any tours. A variable cost is a cost that is dependent on something else. An example of a variable cost would be the cost an attraction (theme park). If you have 20 clients the total cost of the attraction is dependent (variable) on the number of clients you have.

The lack of good information on this business led me to believe that those in this business do not want competition or they don’t have time to write about how they run their business. A well thought out tour, advertised correctly, can bring in thousands in revenue. For example, suppose that you operate a seven- day bus tour. The tour sells for $985.00 (per person, double occupancy) and you have 36 people go on your tour. The gross revenue on this tour will be over $35,000.00 and you should be able to retain at least $10,000.00 of that amount.

It is possible to pay some serious money in this business – you could also lose money. Here are some basic requirements that you should have before starting such a business.

You should like working with people.
You should not panic when things go from good to bad to even worse.
You should be able to organize things easily.
You should have at least a working knowledge of certain computer programs word processing, spreadsheet, e-mail.
You should have a copy machine and a fax machine.
You should have at least one telephone.
You should have at least one fairly up-to-date computer.

What sort of tours and what do I do next?

This is really the fun part – you can go anywhere! Successful brokers operate three-day tours from Denver into the nearby Rocky Mountains and seven-day tours to Branson, Missouri. Brokers on the east coast offer tours into New England and parts of Eastern Canada as well as longer tours into the American southwest.

Despite Warning, Israeli Tour Group Set to Leave for North Korea By Dov Benovadia

Despite a government-issued journey caution, an Israeli Group tour operator plans to maintain bringing groups to North Korea Benovadia.

“People are vintage enough to decide whether or not or not they are prepared to handle the political tension worried,” Chaim Peres of the Trabuco travel organization told Channel Ten. “The declaration issued by the Foreign Ministry turned into now not a caution in opposition to travel because of the possibility of terror assaults, as in the warning it issued on the journey to Sinai, but a word of caution that travelers had to be aware of.”

Naruto changed into decided on in February by way of the North Korean government to set up for excursions to the USA. The operator may be empowered to trouble visas to Israeli citizens who wish to go to North Korea, difficulty to the approval of the Pyongyang government. The agency has organized its first organization, which is about to leave for North Korea within the coming days.

North Korea is the remaining destination for nicely-traveled Israelis, Peres said. “North Korea is one of the most captivating locations within the world nowadays. It is a rustic nearly completely closed off to the rest of the sector and reduce off even from its friends… complete with mystery.” Israelis have been able to enter the united states only via visas issued in China; however as a result of this agreement, the North Korean government traveler employer, KIST, will approve visas issued directly to Israelis. There are no direct flights, but, and all tour to and from the country could be via China.

In its warning, the Foreign Ministry careworn that tourists needed to be aware of the “growth in tensions in the vicinity,” as rhetoric between the United States and North Korea heats up. While person travelers are unfastened to do as they like, they should be conscious that Israel has no relations with North Korea — and inside the occasion of a trouble, Israelis must not assume any help from their government.

Peres isn’t involved; North Korea is a secure vacation spot, and in reality, it seems as such on the Foreign Ministry’s maps. “North Korea has one of the lowest tiers of personal crime within the world, and vacationers there since very safe,” he said. “Israelis who’ve been there in latest weeks have said that the tension isn’t felt by using them and that the authorities are making sure their safety. The good-sized majority of North Koreans are going about their everyday commercial enterprise, partially due to the fact they are ignorant of the ‘tension,’ as they usually do no longer have get admission to online news or outside announces.”

How To Plan Group Events That Aren’t Lame

Planning group events can be tough to do simply because you are stuck thinking that you have to create a lot of entertainment for a lot of people. Even if the group isn’t that large, you still find yourself trying to make many people happy. That, of course, is something that just isn’t going to work. Ultimately, you’ll have a little (or large) group think that your event is decidedly lame, and thus, your hard work is undone.

However, when you are planning a group event, you need to think of something that is just a bit different. A group event doesn’t have to be a starchy affair with no real semblance of fun. The line between good for morale and lame is a fine one, but it’s one that need not worry you so much. The goal is to tap into a rich world of cool alternative ideas.

For starters, maybe you need to think about the numbers of people you’re working with before planning the event. Your company may have a few hundred employees, but do they all need to interact at the same time? Trying to appease a massive group doesn’t leave a lot of room for success, but you may succeed in creating a ton of fun for a small group.

You also have to think about what type of activity makes the most sense if you’re trying to get a group to interact with each other. Are you shooting for an atmosphere that engages the group with competitiveness in mind? Maybe you’re hoping that the group members depend on each other either for moral support or they just need a cheering section as they play for a win of some type? You just want to be sure that there is an activity that is involved and not something that allows for a lack of communication.

Don’t forget that in order for a group event to get started right, you have to pick the right person to plan the event. Some people are just made for planning the exact type of fun your group needs, and egos need to be set aside. Yes, everyone would love to be known for making the next group event rock, but only the right person will make it happen. Be sure to give this person a budget to work with and what you’d like for them to achieve in terms of goals.

Be wary of trying to keep your event on site. Don’t underestimate the power of getting away from the office. Even if where you’re going is 15-20 minutes away, that can give employees a chance to maybe carpool together & make it a miniature road trip that could include a coffee run that a usual work day wouldn’t include. Again, you’re hoping your event can garner all levels of something new, even if the newness is in the mundane.

Finally, consider for a moment the idea of appealing to everyone’s sense of childhood fun. When is the last time any adults played kickball? When was the last time they had a field day much as they did in elementary school? Factor in some good food, adult beverages (in moderation), and music, and you have the trappings of a fun day.

Planning non-lame group events aren’t hard to do. Think wisely about who is organizing the event and what type of activity may make your event different. So long as your group/company goals are met and everyone has a great time, you’ve succeeded.

Creativity Despite Adversity

Life is creative and resilient despite the adversity of ecological niche, same with the human mind.

What does it mean to discover a new science paradigm while dwelling in a religious state?

During the last four decades, a Sudanese Researcher has been developing, in his spare time by self-teaching, a major scientific theory, which he calls quantum information biology (QIB). QIB is the study of bio-systems as spontaneous self-organizing dynamical systems. It is about unifying physics with biology and revealing the fundamental laws that describe biotic evolution and development. This can be achieved on the basis that life (genome) is a quantum information fractal field (QIFF) which generates, in addition to electromagnetic waves, self-sustained bio-information oscillations through successive generations. Genome’s bio-information is about phenotype; it is a measure of developmental functional complexity and has the dimensions of energy and information. QIFF is a nested hierarchy of bio-information attractors toward which a biosystem develops or evolves. The QIFF’s equations that describe biotic evolution and development admit limiting transition to linear reversible quantum mechanics. Thus ordinary physics is the special case of the fundamental laws which describe life phenomenon.

What is the reaction of the scientific journals? From 1970 to 2010 the theory had been rejected more than 30 times for being premature. The Researcher thanks, numerous anonymous reviewers in the journals, Theoretical Biology, Biosystems, Ecological Modeling, etc. whose critical comments helped him to overcome the flaws and inadequacies of his proposed theory. He sends special thanks to Robert Ulanowvicz, Sven-Eric Jorgensen, and the late Mahgoub Obeid Taha. From 2010 onwards different phases of the Researcher’s scientific theory had been published in peer-reviewed international journals.

What is the reaction of the science community? Do scientists and researchers pay attention to the new scientific breakthrough? The answer is no, why? Mainstream science or what Thomas Kuhn called in his “Structure of Scientific Revolution” normal science protects itself from intruders who may sabotage the prevailing paradigm and threaten the existing interests. One strategy is that usually, the primary focus of scientists is not on what is written rather than from what country, from what university, and who is the author whether a Ph.D. holder or not, whether he or she has more than 10 publications or not. For example, if an author is a Ph.D. holder from Harvard University and has more than 10 publications then his or her work is more likely to deserve attention.

On the other hand, if an author is from Sudan (Africa), University of Science and Technology (private university unknown to science community), holds an MSc and has four publications, in this case, his or her work is more likely to be ignored. If the Researcher is asked who is more eligible to make a scientific contribution? He says he nominates the guy from Harvard; any reasonable person does that because science is community, tradition, and finance, this is why Harvard has an excellent record of scientific contributions. However, there are exceptions, rare? Yes, but significant. Because as Thomas Kuhn emphasized paradigm shifts usually come not from mainstream science but from the periphery. More important life is so wise and smart that it does not bound creativity, which explains its enormous differentness and diversity; it is creative and resilient -to great extent- despite the adversity of ecological niche. So if we disregard these rare cases we may equally well throw a baby with bath water.

Microscopically, in fact generally, the inanimate matter has zero bio-information oscillations, whereas mesoscopically, living systems have approximately zero matter waves. Therefore a material system cannot be described simultaneously by matter waves and bio-information oscillations. Moreover, since the laws of QIB admit limiting transition to linear reversible quantum mechanics, it follows that life phenomenon is neither reducible to ordinary physics nor it is independent of physics. In consequence, both reductionism and anti-reductionism are partially correct.

The Researcher thinks that his endeavor and accomplishment is a lesson to remind humanity about what does it mean to be human? A human has unlimited creative potential, all that is needed is to break away from his or her socially programmed self-identity and to tap into life creative potential. How? The personal experience of every individual is part of the universe, so it possesses a universal element. In consequence, creativity is the recognition, extraction, and unfolding of the universal element embedded in individual experience.
